Meet Lochlann James

Lochlann James Hamilton was born January 27th at 3:30PM weighing 9lb 7oz. His birth was relatively normal, although the week before hand was pretty full (that’s a story for another time). I’m sure what you all want to see are the pictures so here you go.

Using emacs as my git editor

I generally have an emacs instance running someplace on my desktop, however I interact with git via the terminal.  It gets to be quite annoying when git pulls up an editor and it isn’t emacs, the commands are different or not present.

To fix this I change my git editor to emacsclient:

git config --global core.editor 'emacsclient -nw'

The -nw tells it to open in the current terminal instead of opening the file in an existing emacs window/frame.  Now I can edit away with all the power of emacs and hit C-x # when I’m done and it goes away.

Ode to a dog

You bounce and sprint and pounce upon the ball,
Slip and slide through the mud and grass to fall,
Then bounding up ball in jaw,
a prize like none before.

Traffic Stopper

Dieta with three tennis balls

She just keeps fetching

I have had a fair number of incidents where people stop and look at Dieta.  Pretty much every time we go out somebody has a comment.  Dieta of course could care less unless they look like they might have a treat.  Most of the time it is somebody on foot we talk to, but every week or she manages to stop somebody in a car as well.

Today however I think she bested herself.  We were on our way down to the dog park to play fetch and ignore other dogs.  At one of the intersections we stopped, got positioned on the corner and looked around before continuing, good thing as a VPD cruiser was coming up the street with lights on, no siren.  Naturally we waited, however much to my surprise the cruiser came to a stop, looked at us and motioned us across.  Apparently Weimeraners trump police with lights on.

For people that care.

Because of my utter dislike for the social databases out there, their mandatory invasion of privacy and my want of staying in touch with the people who care has lead me to this drastic maneuver. This blog is not made to be overly humorous, or scientifically fascinating, or even very entertaining. This blog is simply a desperate cry of help to detach myself from the overly complicated and vastly intrusive on line social networking world, while still telling the not so dramatic tale of my life.
