Letitia and Tyler would like to introduce you to Emma Aurelia Hamilton, born Monday October 21st 2013. She was born weighing approximately 8lb 8oz and measuring 21 1/4″ in length.
Emma’s birth was a bit rougher than average and she required some assistance getting breathing, as such she went straight to the nursery. As part of standard procedure an IV was started and monitors were put on. We briefly saw her right at delivery and then I saw her again about 15 minutes afterwards. Letitia got to the nursery with me about an hour after the delivery where we got to really meet Emma for the first time.
Emma had her toes by her head in the womb, as you can tell when we bedded her down two hours after birth. The nurse in the nursery was amazingly supportive and got me to move Emma with everything attached to the incubator.
Tuesday afternoon Emma was allowed out of the nursery to spend the day with us in our room. On a side note, the Nelson hospital is amazing, they have two beds in each recovery room of the maternity ward allowing daddy to sleep with mommy and daughter during the hospital stay. By Tuesday evening Emma was deemed stable and could stay off the monitors with us in the room.
Wednesday afternoon the blood test started at birth had been clear for 36 hours and the pediatrician said she no longer required the IV and could be cared for by the midwives alone.
Unfortunately Gandpa Ken was half way across the country visiting his other grand daughter. We did a photo shoot for him on Wednesday to show off her little dress before she out grows it.
Emma does like to spend some time looking at mommy and daddy, if you look close you can see mommy looking back.
Thursday afternoon everything was looking good and we headed home. Here’s the final shot just outside of the amazing Nelson hospital before we left for home. Here’s to a happy healthy mommy and a happy healthy baby.
We’ll try and post more soon.
